Ask the Baltimore county council to refrain from influencing the primary elections by appointing a non-candidate to fill the county executive seat.
Following the tragic and unexpected passing of County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, the Baltimore County Council has the responsibility of appointing someone to fill the role of county executive until a successor is elected. Coming just a month before the primary, this appointment has the potential to alter the balance of one or more elections.
We call on the County Council to avoid appointing anyone who is currently running for any position in the 2018 primary, which would give the person appointed an unfair and unearned advantage in the election. The Council should avoid any appearances of favoritism that would alter the natural course of the election and instead appoint someone not currently running for office, who will be a good caretaker for the county until such time as a new county executive can be elected.
In addition to signing this petition, which will be delivered to all council members, please contact your council member and ask them to appoint a non candidate to this position ASAP. You can find your council member here.
